About the Program- General Overview 

 

The Ibrahim Leadership and Dialogue Middle East Program with Queens College (ILDME) provides a unique opportunity for U.S. undergraduate students of diverse backgrounds and faiths to develop their leadership skills and promote understanding through first-hand immersive educational experiences. 

 

Accepted students partake in a series of learning modules designed to provide a comprehensive background understanding of the MENA/SWANA regions. Students will emerge equipped with the knowledge and insights needed to make a lasting impact in their pursuit of leadership, entrepreneurship, and/or conflict resolution. Upon completion of this sequence of study, students embark on a fully-funded four week journey through Oman, the United Arab Emirates, Jordan, Egypt, Palestine, and Israel.

 

Program Highlights

 

Comprehensive Learning Modules: Prior to your travel, you will participate in a mostly asynchronous online preparatory course from September through December 2023. This series of learning sessions will equip you with a background on the region and key historical and contemporary issues related to the countries and areas we will be exploring.

 

On-the-Ground Exposure: Once you complete the preparatory learning, you will join a select group of students from Queens College, CUNY and other prestigious universities across the United States, in order to to engage in an immersive educational study tour of the Middle East. This experience will provide you with a deep understanding of the innovation and complexities surrounding Oman, the United Arab Emirates, Jordan, Egypt, Palestine, and Israel.

 

Engagement and Dialogue: Throughout the program you will actively engage with various stakeholders including politicians, community leaders, non-governmental organizations, faith leaders, academic experts, and individuals on the ground. This unique opportunity will allow you to hear diverse perspectives, narratives, and personal stories, enabling you to develop a comprehensive and nuanced understanding of the region.

 

Leadership Development: By participating in the Ibrahim Student Leadership Program, you will learn and enhance leadership skills such as effective communication, strategic thinking, decision making, and problem solving. Additionally you will be offered a platform for networking with diverse leaders, fostering connections and opening doors for future collaborations and career opportunities.

 

Post Trip Opportunities: Upon successful completion of the Ibrahim Fellowship, you will submit a post trip project highlighting your experience. You will then have the option to submit your resume to a CV book for potential internship opportunities with organizations and institutions you have met with on your trip, providing valuable opportunities for your career enhancement.
